 | When you serve with City Year every day is a chance to make a difference. No two days will be exactly alike, but here is an example of what a typical day might be like with City Year Chicago.

Read about Bianca Verma's service.7:11 am – Get on the bus to arrive for your team’s first meeting of the day and a powerful day of service. If it is Friday, take the EL (Chicago’s elevated train) to get to Federal Plaza for Unity Rally. Unity Rally prepares corps members for a powerful day of service through PT (physical training), and daily announcements.
8:15 am – Meet with team at school for first circle. Go over announcements and discuss goals for the day.
8:30 am – Greet students as they arrive at school and encourage them to have a great day in school. Morning Greeting serves to get the students energized and excited about learning.
9:00 am – Call students who did not come to school and encourage them to come to class so they do not miss out on important assignments.
9:15 am – Go to assigned classroom and support teacher by helping students who might have trouble with their reading or math assignments. Depending on situation, tutoring may be one-on-one or in small groups.
12:00 pm – Mentor the 5 students on behavior initiative focus list. Talk about what is going on in their lives and find positive and constructive approaches to the problems they encounter.
12:30 pm – Grab some lunch and get caught up on some paperwork.
1:00 pm – Research ideas for after-school club with teammate.
1:45 pm – Have weekly meeting with assigned teacher. Talk about student performance and identify additional students to target. This time can also be used to meet with your team or with school administration.
2:35 pm – Get ready for students to arrive for Homework Help.
2:45 pm – Homework Help begins.
4:00 pm – Snack Time! Students wrap up homework and get ready to go to the after school program.
4:15 pm – After school program begins. Corps members plan a variety of activities to keep students engaged in positive and constructive interactions on school grounds.
5:15 pm – Students leave school. Clean up and get organized for the next day.
5:45 pm – Meet for final circle. Debrief the day and share joys from service.
6:05 pm – Walk to the bus stop with team.
