10th Annual Ripples of Hope Awards Dinner

“Each time a person stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he… [or she] sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
--Robert F. Kennedy

Over the last 10 years, City Year’s Ripples of Hope Dinner has become one of Chicago’s premier fundraising events, featuring exceptional cuisine, a stirring program, and excellent networking opportunities among Chicago’s philanthropic and business community. The evening’s theme stems from Robert F. Kennedy's 1966 address to the University of Cape Town in South Africa, addressing how social change can stem from the heroic acts of a few individuals.

Attendees dine with some of Chicago’s premiere business and philanthropic members while experiencing the energy of City Year Chicago’s youth corps, a diverse group of young adults who inspire Chicago’s children and communities by giving a year of service to change the world. Hear how these young people are making a difference by providing literacy tutoring to elementary students around Chicago while honoring some of Chicago’s most deserving leaders.

City Year Chicago would like to congratulate the 2008 Ripples of Hope Honorees:
Terry Mazany, President, Chicago Community Trust and Northern Trust
(Frederick H. Waddell, President and Chief Executive Officer, accepting the award on behalf of the staff).
