| Opening Day, an annual tradition at City Year dating back to the organization's pilot program in 1988, launches the corps and the organization as a whole into a new civic adventure, a new campaign of idealism. It is at Opening Day that City Year corps members are sworn into a year of fulltime service by taking the City Year Pledge and AmeriCorps Pledge. |
By Opening Day, this diverse, idealistic group of young people have completed an intensive one-month training in preparation for the year ahead. Although separated by geography, City Year's corps members from across the country begin a challenging and rewarding ten months during which they will discover their leadership potential and make a difference by serving local communities and thousands of children in elementary and middle schools. At every site, Opening Day sets the tone for an intense year in which corps members will truly be united in their passion for and commitment to service. | |
