For the third night of 100 Hours of Power, City Year Chicago corps members and volunteers traveled to the west side of Chicago to the Humboldt Park neighborhood. City Year partnered with Humboldt Park Social Services, which serves approximately 1,800 people each year with a range of programs and seeks to eliminate homelessness within the community.

Read what corps members, volunteers and service partners had to say about the second day hours of 100 Hours of Power!

From our Service Partner:

Martin, The Re-entry & Work Coordinator, Humboldt Park Social Services

  1. How will this overnight service benefit your organization? The work will affect the adults and kids at both of our locations.
  2. What do you think about the 100HOP event in general? I think it's cool! It's great. This is the second time we have partnered with City Year, and it's bigger and better because it is benefiting both of our locations.

From the City Year Chicago Corps:

Jason, City Year Chicago Corps Member

  1. What was your motivation for doing overnight service on top of your flagship service?
100HOP in itself is a really cool thing, but finally being able to do transformative service in my own neighborhood is rewarding because I can see the results.
  2. How are you feeling right now? Be honest! Tired, my back hurts but I’m having a good time.
  3. Describe your project and what it means to you. It’s a landscaping project for housing for battered single women and homeless men. Doing service to an extent allows you to push yourself. Doing stuff like this, you can see how far you can push yourself and realize there is another level to what you can achieve.

From the Service Coordinators:

Eric, City Year Chicago Senior Corps Member

  1. What’s been the most memorable part of planning your service for tonight?
Working with my fellow senior corps member David. Legendary.
  2. Would you come back and serve during 100HOP next year? Yes!
  3. Describe your project and what it has meant to you. It’s a beautification project. It has meant a lot to me because I’m working with different individuals, different cultures and a different community that City Year Chicago doesn’t regularly serve.
