Neighborhood Impact Areas

On Saturday June 7, 2008 Boston will celebrate its premier community service event - Serve-a-thon.  Serve-a-thon is a transformative day, when over 3,000 citizens come together, across Greater Boston, bringing new life to schools, playgrounds, vacant lots, housing developments and parks at four different Boston neighborhoods.

Service Day Schedule:
7:30 AM  Registration/Breakfast Opens

NEIGHBORHOOD IMPACT AREAS

Following a centralized kick-off event to begin the day, all 3,000 Serve-a-thon participants will travel to four different neighborhoods to perform transformative service.

ALLSTON/BRIGHTON
Sponsored by CSX, the Allston/Brighton impact area will include service at Faneuil Housing Development, McKinney Playground, Columbkille School, Garfield Elementary School, and more to be announced.  Projects will range from painting, baseball field restoration, playground clean-up/maintenance.

DORCHESTER: CODMAN SQUARE & ASHMONT 
Sponsored by Target, the Dorchester impact area will include service at the Codman Square Health Center, Dorchester YMCA, Lucy Stone Elementary School, Holmes Elementary School, Fifield Elementary School, Roberts Playground, Nightingale Community Garden, Wainwright Park, Joy of Learning Pre-School, Ashmont Nursery School, and more.  Projects will range from mural painting, landscaping, picnic table construction, gymnasium painting, community garden revitalization, and a children’s carnival.

ROSLINDALE
Sponsored by MFS Investment Managementâ, the Roslindale impact area will have service at two long standing City Year service partners, the Boston Nature Center, and Haley Elementary School.  Projects will range from planting trees with the mayor’s Grow Boston Greener campaign, trash removal,  landscaping, resurfacing a track, playground graphic painting, a environmental children’s carnival, and more.

SOUTH BOSTON 
Sponsored by Omnicom, the South Boston impact area will be serving at the Old Colony Housing Development, Gavin Middle School, Condon Elementary School and the West Broadway Housing Development.  Projects will include exterior building painting, landscaping, fence maintenance, revitalizing a teen center and playground, mural painting, graphic painting, baseball field restoration and much more.
