This weekend is the perfect opportunity for you to experience the community and spirit that your child enjoys each day as a City Year corps member. We hope you will join us for a fun-filled weekend with events such as school tours, a reception at the City Year office, and the chance to serve side by side with our corps members and 700 other community volunteers at our MLK Day of Service. |  |

Tentative Schedule (subject to change):
Friday, January 13th
10:30am-12:30pm – Registration at City Year Headquarters: Pick up a packet of materials, including a schedule of events, MLK Day registration, and school tour information, and check out our Headquarters located in the heart of the Dupont neighborhood in Washington, DC.
12:30pm-1:30pm – Travel Time to School: Travel as a group from the City Year office or use the directions we will provide to tour one of our schools. If you are traveling on your own, please plan on meeting the group by 1:30pm.
1:30pm-3:00pm – School Tour: Take a tour of one of our schools with its Team Leader. You’ll learn about the academic interventions and service that your corps member does with students every day to keep them in school and on track to graduate. You will also be able to participate in a short and informal roundtable with the Team Leader and a member of the team from that school. Space is limited, and will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
3:00pm - 4:00pm – Travel time to Alumni Community Meeting: Use this time to travel from your location to the Alumni Community Meeting.
4:30 – 5:30pm - Alumni Community Meeting: Throughout the year, teams of corps members have an opportunity to lead a “Community Meeting” at which corps members share stories about their service, their passions, and their lives. MLK Weekend is also our “Alumni Homecoming Weekend” and as part of the weekend, a group of City Year alumni will lead the corps in a “Community Meeting.”
Saturday, January 14th
10:00am -12:00pm - Saturday, January 14 Registration: Optional for those who were not able to register on Friday. Come by get a welcome packet, information on the reception, registration information for MLK Day, and tour of our Headquarters.
6:30pm-8:30pm – Parents and Family Reception: Join us for a Parent and Family reception at the City Year office for an evening of mingling, heavy hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and raffle prizes. This will be a great opportunity to meet other parents as well City Year alumni, and hear from one of our senior corps members about their service.
Sunday, January 15th
Free day – Please enjoy your day in Washington, DC. Feel free to refer to the welcome packet for information on things to do, local attractions, and places to eat.
Monday, January 16th
8:30am - 1:00pm – Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service: Come serve side by side with our corps and 700 other volunteers for City Year's signature MLK Day of Service. Projects will include mural painting, light construction and other school beautification projects. Come make MLK Day a day on not a day off! CLICK HERE for full service day details.

Travel Accommodations
Parents and families should make meal and travel arrangements for the weekend independently, as City Year will not be providing any accommodations aside from the appetizers and drinks that will be served at Saturday’s Reception. In order to offset City Year’s costs for the weekend, please consider making an online donation to City Year Washington, DC. Please indicate City Year Washington, DC when selecting which City Year site. Thank you!
